TREND ALERT: DIY Patch Fashion

TREND ALERT: Patches, tutorial TREND ALERT: Patches, tutorial

Patches are a fun trend this fall and I have an easy DIY Patch Fashion tutorial that will take minutes to complete and save you hundreds of dollars!

So okay, ever since I spotted those colorful patches in the latest Gucci pre-fall collection, I couldn’t stop thinking about it; AND, we’ve seen this trend start to take off last spring. Typically, we found it on high fashion athletic wear and bomber jackets but now, no garment is exempt from this graphic trend. It’s really cool, right now and so easy. Grab a few patches from your local craft store, iron them on a garment and BOOM, it’s runway worthy, right? And it’s any garment you want. Gucci really experimented with this idea, furs, coats, dresses, and purses and the contrast of a formal and flashy piece with a rougher detail is appreciated. I LOVE hard and soft looks. With that said, I did hit up my local thrift store (again) and grabbed a garment I could experiment with and I honestly love it! The BEST part? MOST patches are iron on these days, the Simplicity brand of patches seem to be my favorite because the glue is really durable and I don’t feel like it will be falling off.

The Fashionable Patch Tutorial is so easy and you will need the following:

  1. Patches,
  2. An article of clothing, coat, jacket, dress, purse, shoes, etc
  3. Iron and ironing board

  1. Heat up your iron, enough to melt the glue on the patches but not enough to melt any plastic fibers.
  2. Iron on your patches, most patches will come with application directions.
    1. If it doesnot have an iron on adhesive, then you need to sew in place, which is no biggie.
Pin in place and sew onto place with matching thread.
  3. DONE

As mentioned earlier, it’s awesome feeling when you can own high fashion inspired pieces without breaking the bank!
Mira Mikati sells designs well over $500 using a basic garment and fun patches (my favorite looks: Corduroy Patch Pocket, Rain Jacket, and Patch Sneakers)!

Thanks so much for stopping by, make sure you stop and say hello to me on Facebook and my Instagram. I ALWAYS love getting your feedback.
