American Vibes: Retro in Gingham // Butterick 5880

Pattern: Butterick b5880

Today’s look has a gingham retro feel and 100% appropriate seeing that it’s the Fourth of a July  here in America. I love to go a little vintage for this holiday and having a red, white and blue theme is always the objective. Recently, I was given a few yards of the most gorgeous gingham fabric back in April from a good friend with the idea of creating something magical with it this summer. I say I’ve got the mark because I couldn’t be happier!
Although I haven’t sewn with a lot of vintage patterns on the blog, I LOVE vintage fashion. I love old movies and songs from the 30s, 40s & 50s – early 60s. HOWEVER, I always hesitate sewing them because I don’t want to look like I stepped out of the time machine. Which can get a little tricky with gingham. I want it to be fluid with today’s fashion. So, with a nod of yesterday and an eye on the future, here’s a little patriotic fashion inspo for ya!
I loved working with this pattern because it look complicated but it’s actually quite easy. The neckline details are dreamier than I thought they would be and the pleated side detail on the skirt is perfection. I loved that and it’s one of the reason why vintage patterns are fabulous: detail, detail, detail!
The only thing I would change in the future is the skirt length; I felt it was to narrow to take long strides in. However, I could walk more like a lady and not like I am in a rush somewhere, ha!
Others I hope to try in the future are from my personal collection I founded earlier this spring as seen on my Instagram.

Overall, I think this is a fun dress all summer long! Well, I”m off to celebrate! t! If you decide to give this a try, share it with me on Instagram, @RivaLaDiva and/or give me a shout out on Facebook at Riva La Diva. I would love to hear from you and celebrate with you on your newest creation!

Until then, have a glamorous day, babes!
