School has started and although fall has yet to begin, life moves FAST. Especially when you tote around a handful of children, so I am going to quickly break down my favorite fall trends seen on the runway that YOU need to know, so YOU can start preparing for the cool weather season.
It’s coming and will creep up on us sooner than you think!
1. In MOD We Trust
The sixties made it’s way onto the European runways earlier this year, designers like Louis Vuitton to Gucci to Valentino, brought new life to this old trend.
Bold and striped patterns, culottes, bright colors, swing coats, psychedelic prints along with a-line and shift dresses are great when recreating this look!
It’s also important to remember makeup; pale lips and long dark lashes are key for success!
2. Sweater Weather
With this trend, less in NOT more. Go BIG and OVER-SIZED or go home. Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, and Chloe all featured collections with knitwear and LOT’s of it! Cowl necks to turtlenecks, wear one and accessorize with another, or buy it so big that you feel like you are swimming it in! The bigger, the better.
3. Tailored Neutrals
Fall’s tailored looks are all about blending in… that is, in a standout way! You cannot help but feel strong and confident in a tailored garment but still meek and modest when the colors are at a minimum. Invest in a classic tailored garment. These pieces can stand the test of time and hardly go out of style. Different shades of brown, grey, white, and black will do the trick. Hermes, Christophe Lemaire, Jason Wu, and Giorgio Armani are fine examples.
4. I love the Blues
Blue is the new black this fall and it was the most consistent trend on the runway this season. What’s not to love about this moody shade? It’s the most likeable color you will wear, navy to baby blue to aqua to turquoise to denim, EVERY SHADE is a sure hit! 3.1 Phillip Lim, Altuzarra, Dries Van Noten, and Michael Kors were some of my favs.
5. Print Remix
Although summer is coming to a close, this fall will be anything but boring! Mixing prints is still big this season and I could not be more happy! But for most, mixing prints can feel a bit intimidating but confidence (even if you fake it) will take this look to the next level. For my mixing newbies, stick to two prints. Think of it as riding a bike, stripes and polkadots are like training wheels for this trend – you cannot fail. Then take the training wheels off and work them with animal prints, colorful motifs, and the next think you know, you will be a remixing speed racer! Dries Van Noten, Proenza Schouler, and the remix queen herself, Diane Von Furstenberg have wonderful collections!
6. Statement Fur
Fall in love with fur. Textile companies are making great waves each season to provide the softest and most realistic faux furs. Shearling to leopard, neon to natural, vests to coats, all varieties have all made their way onto the catwalk. Most people I know don’t wear fur, myself included but I am hoping to change that this season with a few future tutorials this season!
And speaking off future tutorials, look for that! This will make for some fun posts and pattern reviews as I recreate these looks for fall. I have always sewn for everyone else, so it will be fun to finally do it for myself! First one starts next friday – I am sooooo excited – STAY TUNED!
Until then, which trend was your favorite? Which one were you hoping to see more of?
Have a glamourous day,
