DIY Dior

Are you loving all the glitz and glam with this season’s runways?

Glitz and glam; my 2 favorite g-words.

This week’s post is inspired by Dior’s pre-fall 2015 collection.

So how does one work this DIY Dior-inspired sequined look?

  • In layers; under coats, vests, dresses, fur, and if you are daring enough, all by itself.
  • Next? Fabric. Fabric is sooooooooooo important and this disco-feeling fabric from Hancocks is perfection.
  • So, the next question you are thinking… WHERE do I wear this?
Ummmm….. where do you not? Besides the holiday party no-brainer… of course

    1. Would it be too irreverent to say I would wear it to church? I would and will (maybe with a dowdy cardigan).
    2. The grocery store. You betcha, belt it with a blanket scarf or sleeveless coat. But tone down the make up a little.
The moment I wear it to the grocery store, I will Instagram it up.
    3. Date night. Just like this (see photo below) – oh gosh, I love my sleeveless coat tutorial.
I just picked up 2 more coats, don’t judge.

    4. And if you are in a pinch for a Halloween, work the disco ball angle.

This dress, I’m soooooo loving at the moment.
I wanted something flashy but classy and I think it classes up nicely with this clean and structured black collar.

Not to mention when you pair it with these shoes – thanks Target.

The pattern I used and altered was Vogue’s V9003.
I ditched the bottom half of the blouse and attached a gathered skirt (same way I did this dress):

  1. Measure your hips and round up to the nearest whole number (mine is 38 inches).
  2. Now divide your hip measurement by 2 (19 inches for me).
  3. Next decide how gathered you want your skirt.
You can double or even triple the last measurement, a little gathering (x2), more gathering (x2.5), a lot of gathering (x3) and so forth. I did 2.5 for the dress above (2.5 x 19 = 47.5 inches). The new measurement is just ONE side of my skirt for the width and then decide whatever length you want!
I went with 30 inches for length.
